Cerro Machin volcano (Colombia): seismic swarm

A swarm of volcano-tectonic earthquakes occurred from 16:36 h (local time) until 19:25 h last night. The quakes were localized mainly to the southeast of the dome, at depths ranging between 2 and 4.5 km.

The largest earthquake was recorded at 17:40 h with a magnitude of 2.9 ML and one at 17:21 of magnitude 2.6 ML. Both were felt by residents near the volcano. Other parameters monitored by INGEOMINAS have not shown significant changes.
Such swarms have occurred frequently under the volcano since instrumental monitoring of the volcano began. INGEOMINAS maintains alert level "yellow".
