The volcano remains at alert level 2 ("waspada") on a scale of 1-4 and an exclusion zone of 3 km around the summit is in place.
The nature of the eruptions is unknown without further analysis of the ash, but could be phreatic (steam-driven). Similar small explosive eruptions have been occurring sporadically during the past years. Whether the volcano is entering a phase of increased activity is impossible to predict.
