Introduction
Mount McLoughlin is a large basaltic-andesite lava cone containing a pyroclastic core exposed by glaciation that is capped by an armor of andesitic lava flows from summit and flank vents. The latest flows were considered by Maynard (Harris, 1988) to probably be of similar age to the young McKenzie Pass lava flows in the central Oregon Cascades, but Smith (in Wood and Kienle 1990) estimated the age of the youngest flows as about 20,000 to 30,000 years.---
