The Pliocene-to-Pleistocene Moheli Island, also known as Mwali, was constructed by eruptions along a NW-SE rift zone. A renewal of activity during the late Pleistocene produced very fresh lava flows and well-preserved cinder cones (Strong, 1972; Krafft, 1983).---
