In the last week the Nevado del Ruiz volcano continued to record seismic activity mainly associated with rock fracturing within the volcanic edifice, which was localized mainly to the north, northwest and east of Arenas crater at depths ranging between 1.5 and 10 km. The maximum magnitude recorded during the last week was 1.6 ML (local magnitude), corresponding to an earthquake that occurred on October 11 at 19:28 (local time). Was also recorded, low-energy seismic activity related to fluid dynamics in volcanic conduits, located in the crater Arenas and east of it. Additionally there were signals associated with small explosions or gas emissions and ash characteristics of the current state where the volcano is located. ... [details]
