Holuhraun éruption fissurale (volcan Bardarbunga, Islande) - fontaines de lave 12 sep 2014

On 23 August, the largest volcanic eruption in Iceland in over 100 years started from of Bardarbunga volcano with several phases of fissure eruptions above a large intrusion that had made its way for more than 40 km from the volcano's main reservoir.
Tom flew over the eruption site in the late afternoon of 12 September 2014. Activity at the Holuhraun fissure (which had started on 30 Aug) was still going on strong, erupting about 200 cu meters of magma per second. The eruption fissure is located about 40 km north of Bardarbunga's central caldera, between Dyngjujokull glacier and Askja Volcano.
After having started at the end of August 2014, it was still erupting about 200 cubic meters of lava per second, becoming the most important volcanic event of Iceland in the last hundred years. The lava now flows nearly 20 kms from the vents!
