Santa Maria / Santiaguito volcano (Guatemala) activity update

Explosion Sep 29. 2012 (INSIVUMEH)
Explosion Sep 29. 2012 (INSIVUMEH)
At 05:18 hours local time yesterday, a rumbling was heard from the Nima 1 valley above the observatory. Most of the time, the dome is degassing with a 400 m steam plume.
A moderate explosion occurred at 05:07 hours and sent a gray ash column to 800 meters height. The lava flow front on the southeast side entering the Nima 1 valley is steaming.
Actualités précédentes
Current seismic signal from STG station (INSIVUMEH)
Thursday, Sep 27, 2012
The volcano is almost continuously hidden in clouds, but the seismic signal suggests ongoing rock avalanches from probably still weakly active lava flows on the dome flanks. [details]
Tuesday, Sep 25, 2012
Small avalanches from the southern side of the dome and few weak explosions ejecting ash clouds to 200-300 m height occurred during the past 24 hours. [details]
Sunday, Sep 23, 2012
Small explosions with fine ash columns rising to between 300 and 400 meters above the crater, moving southwest. Degassing steam plumes of 100-150 m height, small avalanches on the southern slope of the dome. [details]
Current seismic signal from STG1 station (INSIVUMEH)
Saturday, Sep 22, 2012
INSIVUMEH reports only steaming from the lava dome, but the seismic signal still shows what probably are near-constant rockfalls from the steep slopes and still active (?) lava flows on its flanks. [details]
Thursday, Sep 20, 2012
No explosions were reported from Santiaguito during the past days. The observatory reports a steam plume rising 400m and small incandescent avalanches from the lava dome's lava flows on the NE and SE flanks. [details]
