5.2 quake 15 Feb 11:57 am (GMT +7)
Indonesia was shaken near Padangsidempuan, Sumatera Utara, by an earthquake of magnitude 5.2 only 12 minutes ago, Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency reported.
The quake hit at a moderately shallow depth of 32 km beneath the epicenter near Padangsidempuan, Sumatera Utara, Indonesia, in the morning on Monday 15 February 2021 at 11:57 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake. A third agency, the United States Geological Survey, reported the same quake at magnitude 5.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Padangsidempuan (pop. 100,600) located 70 km from the epicenter, and Sibolga (pop. 79,700) 77 km away.
