Just 23 minutes ago, a 4.2-magnitude earthquake struck near Minatitlan, Minatitlán, Veracruz, Mexico. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Wednesday 17 February 2021 at 8:48 pm local time, at an intermediate depth of 141 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the first seismological agency to report it.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In El Tepache (pop. 620, 2 km away), Sayula de Aleman (pop. 14,000, 46 km away), Oluta (pop. 12,700, 50 km away), Acayucan (pop. 50,900, 52 km away), Jaltipan de Morelos (pop. 32,800, 54 km away), Cosoleacaque (pop. 22,500, 60 km away), Minatitlan (pop. 112,000, 63 km away), and Nanchital de Lazaro Cardenas del Rio (pop. 25,300, 77 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
