3.0 quake 2 Jun 10:56 am (GMT -7)
The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.0 quake in the United States near Mammoth Lakes, Mono County, California, only 7 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Wednesday 2 June 2021 at 10:56 am local time at a very shallow depth of 0.6 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.0 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Benton (pop. 280) located 7 miles from the epicenter. In Mammoth Lakes (pop. 7,900, 29 miles away), Dixon Lane-Meadow Creek (pop. 2,600, 36 miles away), West Bishop (pop. 2,600, 38 miles away), and Hawthorne (pop. 3,300, 43 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
