Just 9 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Magugpo Poblacion, Davao, Philippines. The tremor was recorded in the morning on Sunday 6 June 2021 at 10:59 am local time, at a shallow depth of 10 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency, the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.4 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Magatos (pop. 5,800) located 2 km from the epicenter, and New Corella (pop. 20,600) 10 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Magugpo Poblacion (pop. 233,300) located 16 km from the epicenter, Cabayangan (pop. 16,500) 18 km away, Nabunturan (pop. 16,700) 26 km away, Panabo (pop. 84,700) 30 km away, Compostela (pop. 42,600) 41 km away, and Monkayo (pop. 51,400) 45 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Davao City (pop. 1,212,500) located 57 km from the epicenter.
