5.1 quake 13 Jun 2:23 pm (GMT +11)
An earthquake of magnitude 5.1 occurred only 19 minutes ago 47 km southeast of Honiara, Solomon Islands, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Honiara, Solomon Islands, early afternoon on Sunday 13 June 2021 at 2:23 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.0.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Honiara (pop. 56,300) located 47 km from the epicenter, Malango (pop. 10,500) 52 km away, and Auki (pop. 6,800) 127 km away.
