The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.4 quake in the United States near Mena, Polk County, Arkansas, only 9 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Thursday 22 July 2021 at 4:08 am local time at a shallow depth of 6.2 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.4 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Waldron (pop. 3,400) located 12 miles from the epicenter, and Mena (pop. 5,700) 13 miles away. In Greenwood (pop. 9,300, 35 miles away), Poteau (pop. 8,700, 38 miles away), Fort Smith (pop. 88,200, 49 miles away), and Van Buren (pop. 23,100, 51 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
