Just 6 minutes ago, a 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Hemet, Riverside County, California, USA. The tremor was recorded late at night on Wednesday 4 August 2021 at 11:51 pm local time, at a shallow depth of 11 miles below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.5 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Hemet (pop. 83,900) located 1 miles from the epicenter, San Jacinto (pop. 47,000) 2 miles away, East Hemet (pop. 17,400) 3 miles away, Menifee (pop. 87,200) 10 miles away, Beaumont (pop. 43,800) 12 miles away, Perris (pop. 75,000) 14 miles away, Moreno Valley (pop. 204,200) 19 miles away, and Murrieta (pop. 109,800) 19 miles away. In Anaheim (pop. 350,700, 54 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.
