Magnitude 4.8 earthquake strikes near Bahawalpur, Bahāwalpur District, Punjab, Pakistan

An earthquake of magnitude 4.8 occurred only 9 minutes ago 84 km southeast of Bahawalpur, Pakistan, India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Bahawalpur, Bahāwalpur District, Punjab, Pakistan, in the afternoon on Friday, September 10th, 2021, at 5:06 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Yazman (pop. 24,600) located 54 km from the epicenter, Bahawalpur (pop. 552,600) 84 km away, and Ahmadpur East (pop. 116,600) 88 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mandi (pop. 40,600) located 99 km from the epicenter, Lodhran (pop. 97,200) 100 km away, and Kahror Pakka (pop. 69,700) 104 km away.
