Just 23 minutes ago, a 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck near La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico. The tremor was recorded early morning on Thursday, September 16th, 2021, at 5:03 am local time, at a shallow depth of 17 km below the surface.
The event was filed by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 4.3.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include La Linea (pop. 34) located 68 km from the epicenter, Los Barriles (pop. 1,200) 79 km away, La Ribera (pop. 2,100) 82 km away, and La Paz (pop. 215,200) 106 km away.
