Just 16 minutes ago, a 4.4-magnitude earthquake struck near Oruro, Bolivia. The tremor was recorded in the evening on Monday, October 4th, 2021, at 9:19 pm local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 263.4 km below the surface.
The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey, the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Huanuni (pop. 15,500, 33 km away), Oruro (pop. 208,700, 52 km away), Llallagua (pop. 28,100, 54 km away), and Challapata (pop. 8,000, 61 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
