Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes near Iwaki, Iwaki-shi, Fukushima, Japan4.7 quake 13 May 5:10 am (GMT +9)
Japan's National Research Institute for Earth Science and Disaster Resilience (NIED) reported a magnitude 4.7 quake in Japan near Iwaki, Iwaki-shi, Fukushima, only 11 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Friday, May 13th, 2022, at 5:10 am local time at a moderately shallow depth of 38.3 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Namie (pop. 21,900) located 52 km from the epicenter, and Iwaki (pop. 357,300) 61 km away.
