A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Lazaro Cardenas, Lázaro Cárdenas, Michoacan, Mexico, was reported 31 minutes ago by Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN), considered the main national agency that monitors seismic activity in Mexico. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 11 km beneath the epicenter late at night on Saturday, June 25th, 2022, at 10:02 pm local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.3 as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Chiquihuitillo (pop. 18) located 2 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Arteaga (pop. 10,500) located 13 km from the epicenter, Tumbiscatio de Ruiz (pop. 2,800) 24 km away, Buenos Aires (pop. 9,900) 34 km away, Las Guacamayas (pop. 38,000) 38 km away, La Orilla (pop. 20,100) 39 km away, Lazaro Cardenas (pop. 79,200) 42 km away, and La Mira Tumbiscatio (pop. 14,500) 43 km away.
