A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Fayzabad, Faīẕābād, Badakhshan, Afghanistan, was reported only 11 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate to considerable depth of 201 km beneath the epicenter early morning on Wednesday 10 March 2021 at 1:06 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 5.0 earthquake.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Jurm (pop. 12,100, 45 km away), Ashkāsham (pop. 12,100, 72 km away), and Fayzabad (pop. 44,400, 75 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
