Moderate 4.3 quake hits near Aībak, Aybak, Samangan, Afghanistan

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near Aībak, Aybak, Samangan, Afghanistan, was reported 38 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter in the morning on Tuesday 13 April 2021 at 8:28 am local time. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
A second report was later issued by the United States Geological Survey, which listed it as a magnitude 4.3 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Aībak (pop. 47,800) located 14 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Baghlan (pop. 108,400) located 58 km from the epicenter, Khulm (pop. 64,900) 70 km away, Nahrin (pop. 22,400) 97 km away, Kunduz (pop. 161,900) 97 km away, and Mazari Sharif (pop. 303,300) 106 km away.
