Moderate magnitude 4.4 earthquake 90 km northeast of Xigaze, China

An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 occurred only 17 minutes ago 90 km northeast of Xigaze, China, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10 km beneath the epicenter near Xigaze, Tibet, China, in the evening on Wednesday 21 April 2021 at 9:28 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.4 as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Xigaze (pop. 80,000) located 90 km from the epicenter, and Gyangze (pop. 10,000) 101 km away.
