An earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred late at night on Saturday 17 July 2021 at 11:52 pm local time near Mayaguez, Mayagüez Barrio-Pueblo, Mayagüez, Puerto Rico, as reported by the United States Geological Survey.
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a very shallow depth of 6.4 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface.
