The United States Geological Survey reported a magnitude 3.1 quake in the United States near Larsen Bay, Kodiak Island, Alaska, only 11 minutes ago. The earthquake hit in the morning on Sunday 18 July 2021 at 8:09 am local time at a very shallow depth of 5.3 miles. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.

A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 3.1 earthquake as well.
Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Larsen Bay (pop. 88) located 15 miles from the epicenter, and Kunakakvak (pop. 37) 17 miles away. In Akhiok (pop. 72, 29 miles away), and Old Harbor (pop. 220, 35 miles away), the quake was probably not felt.

A magnitude 4.9 earthquake near Adams Town, Pitcairn Islands, was reported only 18 minutes ago by the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide.
