Moderate 4.5 quake hits near Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico

A shallow magnitude 4.5 earthquake was reported early morning near Tapachula, Chiapas, Mexico.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), the quake hit on Wednesday 21 July 2021 at 6:16 am local time at a shallow depth of 13 km. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. Magnitude and other quake parameters can still change in the coming hours as the agency continues to process seismic data.
Our monitoring service identified a second report from Mexico's National Seismological Service (SSN) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.5 as well.
