Moderate 4.2 quake hits near Jipijapa, Cantón Jipijapa, Provincia de Manabi, Ecuador

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 occurred only 13 minutes ago 40 km southwest of Jipijapa, Ecuador, the Institute of Geophysics of the National Polytechnic School in Quito (IGEPN) reported.
The quake hit at a very shallow depth of 5 km beneath the epicenter near Jipijapa, Cantón Jipijapa, Provincia de Manabi, Ecuador, in the morning on Thursday 22 July 2021 at 7:49 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.2 earthquake as well.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Jipijapa (pop. 35,900) located 40 km from the epicenter.
