Moderate magnitude 4.2 quake hits 34 km northeast of Al Hoceima, Morocco in the morning

Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.2 as well. A third agency, Spain's Instituto Geográfico Nacional (IGN), reported the same quake at magnitude 3.8.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Al Hoceima (pop. 395,600) located 34 km from the epicenter, Tirhanimîne (pop. 55,800) 36 km away, and Imzouren (pop. 40,000) 40 km away.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Bni Bouayach (pop. 18,300) located 44 km from the epicenter, Midar (pop. 10,200) 63 km away, Nador (pop. 129,300) 79 km away, and Al Aaroui (pop. 36,000) 83 km away.
