Magnitude 4.7 earthquake strikes near Dīr, Upper Dīr District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

India's National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported a magnitude 4.7 quake in Pakistan near Dīr, Upper Dīr District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, only 10 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early morning on Thursday 5 August 2021 at 6:56 am local time at a shallow depth of 10 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.
In Asad Ullah (pop. 20) located 21 km from the epicenter, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Dīr (pop. 29,900) located 25 km from the epicenter, Bat Khela (pop. 46,100) 43 km away, and Mingora (pop. 279,900) 53 km away.

Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Mardan (pop. 300,400) located 90 km from the epicenter, Charsadda (pop. 95,300) 94 km away, and Peshawar (pop. 1,218,800) 111 km away.
