Significant 5.3 quake hits near Nanao, Ishikawa, Japan

Our monitoring service identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 4.8. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Nanao (pop. 45,300) located 59 km from the epicenter, Kurobe-shi (pop. 42,600) 68 km away, Himimachi (pop. 54,500) 78 km away, Uozu (pop. 45,800) 79 km away, Takaoka (pop. 170,100) 88 km away, Toyama (pop. 325,500) 90 km away, Jōetsu (pop. 204,100) 91 km away, and Kanazawa (pop. 458,900) 118 km away.
