Moderate 4.3 quake hits near San Pedro de Atacama, Provincia de El Loa, Antofagasta, Chile

A magnitude 4.3 earthquake near San Pedro de Atacama, Provincia de El Loa, Antofagasta, Chile, was reported only 11 minutes ago by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), considered one of the key international agencies that monitor seismic activity worldwide. The earthquake occurred at an intermediate depth of 113 km beneath the epicenter late at night on Monday, September 27th, 2021, at 11:27 pm local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In San Pedro de Atacama (pop. 2,000, 104 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
