Shishaldin volcano (Aleutian Islands, Alaska): elevated surface temperature; thin ash deposit

The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported that unrest continues at the volcano. A satellite image shows gas-steam plume containing some amount of ash extending a short distance southeast from the summit.
Seismicity remains at low levels including periods of occasional amplitude tremor.
Elevated surface temperatures in the summit crater were observed.
No explosive activity was detected.
Retrospective analysis suggests to an increase in the diameter and depth of the vent within the summit crater, likely a small collapse occurred approx. one week ago.
Activity could escalate with little warning, and additional eruptive activity within the summit crater, lava flows, lahars, and ash-producing eruptive events could occur.

Shishaldin volcano on 23 March (image: AVO)
The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported that seismicity remains elevated with continuous low-level tremor. Satellite and web camera views were mostly obscured by clouds over the past 24 hours, but one relatively clear image showed a small gas plume emanating from the summit of the volcano. Eruptive activity appears confined to the summit area during this most recent period of unrest, which started mid-March. Activity could increase with little or no warning, however, resulting in lava flows and lahars outside of the crater and (or) ash emissions. lire toutes

The Alaskan Volcano Observatory (AVO) report that the eruptive activity continues at Shishaldin volcano. Minor explosive activity has subsided over the past 24 hours, but seismicity remains elevated with near-continuous tremor. A small steam plume from the summit was observed over the past 24 hours.
