Shishaldin volcano (Aleutian Islands, Alaska): resumption of eruptive activity

The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) recorded an ash plume that reached 20,000 ft - 24,000 ft (6,096 m - 7,300 m) altitude and drifted E-SE.

Seismicity has increased to moderate levels.
The ash cloud is visible in satellite data and extends 15-20 miles beyond the volcano to the southeast. Shishaldin remains at Aviation Color Code ORANGE and Alert Level WATCH.

A short-lived explosion occurred at the volcano yesterday and produced an ash cloud to 20,000 - 25,000 feet, which drifted to the W-NW, the Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) reported. Ash emissions can also be seen on today's satellite image attached. ... lire toutes
