Glow from Suwanose-jima volcano this evening
The volcano's activity has picked up. Today, VAAC Tokyo reported at least 3 explosions with low-level ash plumes. Bright glow from the crater area is visible at night, suggesting elevated strombolian to vulcanian-type activity. Here is a video of today's activity: ...plus

Glow above the crater of Suwanose-jima volcano (Japan)
Weak reddish glow can be seen above the active Ontake crater at night. It is possible (if not likely) that there is weak strombolian activity. During the past weeks, a few more energetic explosions produced ash plumes that could be identified by VAAC Tokyo.

Explosive activity has resumed at the remote volcano in the Tokara Island chain. VAAC Tokyo reported explosions yesterday and this morning, with ash plumes rising to 4,000-6,000 ft (1.2-1.8 km) altitude.
