A small ash eruption occurred yesterday evening. An ash plume rose to approx 2 km altitude.

The volcano has entered a more active phase again. Several (strombolian-type) explosions and phases of constant ash venting have occurred since yesterday, producing ash plumes of 1-2 km height.

Eruption at Suwanosejima volcano this morning
A new explosion occurred at the volcano minutes ago. An ash plume rising several 100 meters from the active crater can be seen on webcam images.

After some weeks of no or less visible activity, the volcano has again become more active and bright glow is visible above the crater at night, suggesting the near-continuous small strombolian-type explosions or perhaps even the presence of a small lava lake. ...plus

Activity has been higher today. The volcano had several smaller explosions today. Plumes rose to altitudes of approx 2,000 ft (1.8 km).

An explosion occurred at the volcano yesterday, VAAC Tokyo reported. The height of the ash plume was unknown.

Ash eruption from Suwanose-jima this morning
Explosions have become less frequent, but still occur from time to time. This morning, an ash plume from an eruption could be seen on the webcam. VAAC Tokyo estimated the height of the ash plume that drifted SSE at approx 3 km altitude.

The remote volcano south of Kyushu remains very active, although seems to have calmed down a bit. The following video of the past 24 hours at the volcano shows phases near-continuous steam and ash emissions as well as some smaller discrete explosions.
