An explosion occurred at the volcano yesterday, VAAC Tokyo reported. The height of the ash plume was unknown.

Explosions have become less frequent, but still occur from time to time. This morning, an ash plume from an eruption could be seen on the webcam. VAAC Tokyo estimated the height of the ash plume that drifted SSE at approx 3 km altitude.

The remote volcano south of Kyushu remains very active, although seems to have calmed down a bit. The following video of the past 24 hours at the volcano shows phases near-continuous steam and ash emissions as well as some smaller discrete explosions. Occasional stronger explosions at the volcano produce dark ash plumes rising up to 1-1.5 km altitude.
