Seismic record at Teide volcano (image: INVOLCAN)
A series of hybrid low-frequency (long period) and volcano-tectonic (high frequency) swarms at 9-to-12 km depth has been located southwestern of Pico Viejo beneath the Teide volcano consisting of dozens to hundreds of small magnitude events.
Weak increase in the seismic activity may signalize magma migration under the surface that might eventually allow it to rise further. On the other hand, there is no ruled out to get magma remained at shallow levels without any eruptive activity.
The current registered seismic activity is happening in the same area as in 1980 associated with number of similar events.

Tenerife volcano (Spain) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 12 May-18 May 2004 (New Activity / Unrest)
Local volcanologists reported that there was increased seismicity at Tenerife in mid-May, according to a news article. The article stated that during several days before 18 May there were "five successive low-intensity earthquakes in the island's most volcanically active zone in the area between Mont Teide and Santiago del Teide." The director of the Estación Vulcanológica de Canarias stated that the earthquakes, which were less than M 2, could be an early sign that something unusual was happening at the volcano. ... Read all
