While seismic activity remains moderate with some volcanic tremor present, there is currently only steaming from the volcano.

The volcano produces a constant steam plume, but there were no recent explosions or reports of ash emissions. The tremor is low at the moment.

IG reported that during 29 August-4 September visual observations of Tungurahua were often limited due to cloud cover. Weak explosions with ash emissions have resumed at the volcano. The last one was reported at 23h36 (GMT) last night.

From noon on Saturday, September 1, 2012, there was an increase in the number of earthquakes associated with the movement of fluids inside the volcano. These earthquakes are long period events of small energy mainly registered by the station located in the northwestern flank of the volcano. The highest value corresponds to 532 long period events recorded between 2 and 3 September. Larger explosions were not generated. ...

Seismic activity has increased since the beginning of the month again, however not reached previous levels and IG describes it at moderate. Surface activity have been mainly steaming, creating a 300 m high plume, and few weak explosions, causing light ash fall.
