The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported that explosive activity from the active crater with near-constant grey-white plumes rose 2,624 ft (800 m) above the summit crater.
The seismic station records low internal tremor. The number of volcano-tectonic earthquakes continues at high levels.

INSIVUMEH recorded 6-8 minor to moderate strombolian-type explosions per hour that generated a grey ash plume which reached approx. 14,435 ft-14,765 ft (4,400 m-4,700 m) altitude. The plumes drifted towards the southwest direction.
Incandescence material is ejected to an approximate height of 300 m-400 m above the crater with strong avalanches.

Reykjanes (Reykjanes peninsula (SW Iceland)): (20 Mar) The Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO) report that the inflation and associated uplift that occurred around Mt Thorbjorn volcano in January-February has started again. The deformation is occurring in the same location as before, but at a slower rate. The uplift started in January but paused temporarily at the end of February. The IMO suggest that since the beginning of March, the uplift is about 20 mm. The deformation is believed to be caused by continued magma accumulation at depth. The head of the National Hazard Monitoring Group at the IMO explains that these events doesn’t not guarantee that there will be an eruption any time soon. ... [details]
