Shiveluch (Kamchatka): (28 Dec) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Tokyo (VAAC) issued the following report: ERUPTION AT 20181228/1711Z FL310 REPORTED OBS VA DTG:28/2120Z

Sakurajima (Kyushu, Japan): (28 Dec) Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Tokyo (VAAC) issued the following report: EXPLODED AT 20181228/2149Z FL060 EXTD S OBS VA DTG:28/2140Z
Merapi (Central Java, Indonesia): The volcano continues to erupt slowly, gradually filling the summit crater with a growing lava dome. Incandescent rockfalls occur from the sides of the dome, but so far these have been confined to the crater.
However, the situation is slowly (but almost surely) becoming more dangerous: As the dome grows, the risk of larger, sudden explosions increases, as well as the risk that the dome over-spills or breaches the crater rim. In that case, its activity will directly threaten the densely inhabited areas downslope, as pieces breaking off the lava dome can easily turn into glowing avalanches (pyroclastic flows) that can travel many kilometers and devastate everything in their path.

Dukono (Halmahera): Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: CONTINUOUS VA ERUPTION TO FL070 EXT E OBS VA DTG:29/1050Z
Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Darwin (VAAC) issued the following report: CONTINUOUS VA ERUPTION TO FL070 OBS VA DTG:28/2250Z
Krakatoa (Sunda Strait, Indonesia): The activity at the volcano continues at reduced rate. Steam explosions have been more intermittent and smaller during the past 2 days, generating plumes that rose a few hundred meters only.
This trend corresponds to the seismic signals showing a marked decrease since the surge of supply of magma that led to the paroxysm during 21-22 Dec, which accumulated lots of new lava. This in turn might have been "the last straw that breaks the camel's back", i.e. the additional sudden weight on the slopes and/or the shaking induced by the continuous explosions could might have been the final trigger for the landslide to occur.

Cleveland (Aleutian Islands, Alaska): A small and short-lived explosive eruption occurred earlier today. The Alaska Volcano Observatory (AVO) detected it on seismic data to have been at at 3:17 UTC December 29 (18:17 AKST December 28) and a pilot reported seeing an ash cloud to 17,000 ft asl. Local winds are from the west.
"Explosions from Cleveland typically produce relatively small volcanic ash clouds that dissipate within hours; however, more significant ash emissions are possible.
"Cleveland volcano is monitored with a limited real-time seismic network, which inhibits AVO's ability to detect precursory unrest that may lead to an explosive eruption. Rapid detection of an ash-producing eruption may be possible using a combination of seismic, infrasound, lightning, and satellite data." (AVO)

Etna (Sicily, Italy): The decreasing trend in surface and earthquake activity on and around Etna continues and there is little to nothing left of the vigorous flank eruption that had started on Christmas Eve (24 Dec 2018). However, the volcano is far from quiet and there are indications that more and potentially more dangerous activity could be in the making. ... [details]
