Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update
Monday Mar 18, 2013 16:25 PM | BY: T
Today's seismic signal from Fuego (FG3 station, INSIVUMEH)
The volcano has been calmer today, with only 10 mostly weak strombolian explosions registered, and maximum ash plume heights of 600 m. Incandescent tephra was seen ejected to 100 m above the crater and rolling down towards the Ceniza canyon. Strong degassing with turbine-like noises lasting up to 3 minutes were heard.
Sunday, Mar 17, 2013
Compared to the previous days, activity has a bit decreased. INSIVUMEH reports few weak to moderate explosions, and small glowing avalanches from the crater towards the Ceniza drainage visible at night. A new lava flow is predicted to re-appear in the coming days. ...
Saturday, Mar 16, 2013
The rhythm of explosions remains similar. A total of 15 weak to moderate events with ash plumes rising 400-900 m were mentioned in INSIVUMEH's latest report for the period 14-15 March.
Thursday, Mar 14, 2013
An increase in explosions has been observed recently. INSIVUMEH reported 16 events, out of which 9 were characterized as "moderate" with shock waves that rattled windows and roofs, and incandescent tephra reaching 100-150 m height. ...
Wednesday, Mar 13, 2013
Weak to moderate explosions accompanied by rumbling sounds audible in up to 6 km distance produce a fine ash plume drifting about 10 km to the west, and causing light ash fall in the areas of Panimache and Morelia. ...
Tuesday, Mar 12, 2013
Activity remains weak, with few (8 counted during 10-11 Mar) strombolian explosions producing light-gray ash plumes rising about 500 m.
