Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update: weak to moderate strombolian activity
Thursday Apr 04, 2013 17:09 PM | BY: T
Current seismic signal from Fuego (FG3 station, INSIVUMEH)
Activity has been relatively calm today, with only 5 explosions of small to moderate size (ash plumes 6-900 m) reported by INSIVUMEH.
At night, these strombolian explosions provide a good spectacle, though: glowing bombs are ejected up to 150 m above the crater and shower the upper crater cone at all directions, then roll and slide down as small avalanches.
Degassing, small explosions and rockfalls are well visible on the seismic recording.
Tuesday, Apr 02, 2013
Explosive activity is on the increase again. During 31 Mar - yesterday, the observatory reported 12 small to moderate explosions with ash plumes rising up to 1100 m above the crater, accompanied by shock waves felt in up to 15 km and plenty of incandescent bombs ejected to all over the summit cone.
Sunday, Mar 31, 2013
Activity has remained stable, with occasional strombolian explosions ejecting glowing lava bombs to about 100 m height above the crater. Ash plumes rose 600-800 m and drifted about 10 km into southerly directions. ...
Thursday, Mar 28, 2013
An increase in explosive activity is apparent from the volcano observatory's daily reports. For the past 24 hours between yesterday and today, 13 explosions (7 weak and 6 moderate in size) were reported with ash plume heights up to 1200 m above the crater. ...
Wednesday, Mar 27, 2013
Activity remains at weak levels, with 9 small to moderate explosions generating ash plumes rising up to 800 m above the crater and drifting W and SW where fine ash fall occurred.
Tuesday, Mar 26, 2013
Activity is characterized by occasional weak to moderate strombolian explosions producing ash plumes rising 600-1000 m above the crater. Fine ash fall has been recorded in Panimaché I y II, Morelia and Santa Sofía.
