Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update: strombolian activity, new lava flow on upper southern flank
Monday Jun 17, 2013 13:57 PM | BY: T
Fuego today with the lava flow towards the Ceniza canyon visible (INSIVUMEH webcam)
Activity has increased during the past days. A new small lava flow started on 14 June on the southern flank and had a length of 300 m this morning.
Explosive strombolian activity has picked up a bit as well. Glowing tephra is ejected to 75-125 m height, and ash plumes rise to 3-500 m above the crater.
Wednesday, Jun 12, 2013
INSIVUMEH reports no significant changes in activity. 9 strombolian-type explosions with incandescent bombs ejected to 100 m and ash plumes rising about 500 m were observed during the past 24 hours. [more]
Monday, Jun 10, 2013
Activity remains relatively weak. During the past 24 hours, INSIVUMEH observed 6 small explosions with ash plumes up to 500 m height. At the moment, the main risk from Fuego is posed by lahars (mud flows). ... [more]
Friday, Jun 07, 2013
The level of activity has been generally very weak recently. During yesterday-today, only two small strombolian explosions were counted. ... [more]
Tuesday, Jun 04, 2013
Activity remains weak, but due to heavy rainfall, INSIVUMEH warns of lahars through the drainages of the Ceniza, Las Lajas and El Jute canyons, as well the valleys Taniluyá and Santa Teresa. [more]
Thursday, May 30, 2013
Activity remains weak. As it's rainy season, the volcano is mostly in clouds, but the seismogram and INSIVUMEH reports indicate occasional small explosions, some rockfalls and degassing events. [more]

Divergent plate boundaries in oceans
: Two ocean plates move apart from each other. Hot upwelling mantle material forms magmas that continuously produce new oceanic crust. An ocean widens.
