Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update

Activity remains generally stable with infrequent wek to moderate explosions, sometimes accompanied by shock waves felt in nearby villages. Plumes of fine ash rose to 600-800 m height above the crater and drifted for about 10 km before being dispersed, INSIVUMEH reported this morning in its daily update.

Explosions have become more violent, the latest special bulletin of INSIVUMEH indicates. Mild strombolian eruptions have turned into more powerful vulcanian-type explosions, which eject dense ash plumes rising to 800 m and produce numerous avalanches of blocks around the crater, especially on the southern flank. ... Explosions have become more frequent and stronger. Dense ash plumes rose up to 600 m above the crater. Shock waves from the explosions made windows and roof vibrate in houses of Sangre de Cristo, Panimache, Morelia and others in the area. (INSIVUMEH) [more]

Activity both effusive and explosive has remained relatively unchanged and weak. Ash plumes rose 200-500 m above the crater and eject incandescent material to up to 100 m. The lava flow towards the Ceniza drainage was 250 m long this morning and produced occasional small avalanches. [more]
