Fuego volcano news & eruption updates:
Fuego volcano (Guatemala): increased activity and new lava flow
Yesterday evening's INSIVUMEH report suggests that activity at the volcano increased. 16 explosions were observed with ash plumes up to 1200 m height and a new lava flow on the upper southern flank headed towards the Ceniza canyon.

Many of the explosions produced moderate to strong shock waves that caused vibrations in nearby villages. Incandescent material was seen ejected to up to 200 m above the crater and produced abundant avalanches on the crater slopes.

Activity at the volcano was characterized by weak to moderate strombolian explosions occurring at rates of 2-3 per hour. Abundant incandescent material is ejected and forms avalanches on the upper slopes. ... read all

Activity at the volcano remains both explosive and effusive at fluctuating levels. After an increase during 22-23 Jan, it decreased yesterday, but seems to have picked up today again. read all

It appears that activity has increased over night. A strong continuous seismic signal (probably tremor) suggests an increase in lava effusion could be occurring. The next update from INSIVUMEH later today will give a better picture. read all

Activity remains elevated with abundant lava ejected to 75-125 m height during occasional moderately strong strombolian explosions that are followed by ash plumes rising up to about 700 m and drifting approx. 10 km to the S and SW. Rumblings like locomotive-engine sounds lasting 2-5 minutes accompany the degassing during the eruptions. The lava flow on the SE slope towards the Trinidad canyon reached 300 meters length this morning and produced small glowing avalanches. ... read all
