Fuego volcano (Guatemala) activity update

Activity has been elevated at the volcano. INSIVUMEH reported 36 weak to moderate explosions during 24 hours with ash plumes rising up to 1000 m above the crater and sometimes accompanied by shock waves. A lava flow on the upper SE side (towards the Las Lajas ravine) is active and was 300 m long last night.

Fuego volcano (Guatemala) - Smithsonian / USGS Weekly Volcanic Activity Report for 1 July-7 July 2015 (New Activity / Unrest)

Based on INSIVUMEH notices, CONRED reported that for a 30-hour period during 30 June-1 July activity at Fuego was at a high level, characterized by explosions, high-temperature pyroclastic flows (that began on 1 July), and ashfall. Ash plumes rose 4.8 km above the crater and drifted 25 km W and NW, producing ashfall in 22 local communities. Typical eruption style
Dominantly explosive, construction of lava domes and extrusion of viscous lava flows. In near constant activity, at least during the past centuries.
