Fuego volcano (Guatemala): new phase of strong activity with lava fountains and lava flows
Thursday Oct 08, 2015 09:00 AM | BY: T
Lava fountains and flows at Fuego yesterday (INSIVUMEH)
Lava fountaining at Fuego this morning
Current seismic signal FG3 station (INSIVUMEH)
Another phase of strongly increased activity is occurring at the volcano. Starting 6 Oct, strombolian activity increased to pulsating lava fountains from two summit vents and feeds two lava flows that started to descend the southern and western flanks of the volcano through the Trinidad and Santa Teresa canyon, reaching 1000 and 600 m, respectively.
The activity so far has not resulted in the generation of the much-feared pyroclastic flows, but remains intense and could trigger such flows, if parts of the lava flows on the steep flanks collapse.

Activity has been elevated at the volcano. INSIVUMEH reported 36 weak to moderate explosions during 24 hours with ash plumes rising up to 1000 m above the crater and sometimes accompanied by shock waves. A lava flow on the upper SE side (towards the Las Lajas ravine) is active and was 300 m long last night. ...
