Gamalana volcano (Ternate Island, Indonesia): phreatic eruption on Thursday
Thursday Jul 16, 2015 23:16 PM | BY: T
A phreatic explosion occurred yesterday (16 July) at 10 am local time, producing an ash plume that rose 1500 m. Ternate's airport was temporarily closed following the eruption.
The eruption had been preceded by increasing seismic activity since late June. The alert level of the volcano remains at 2 (waspada) on a scale of 1-4, but VAAC Darwin raised the aviation color code to "orange". An exclusion zone of 1.5 km around the summit is in place.

Intermittent ash emissions continue from the volcano. As it is unknown whether the eruption will dwindle down or increase, an exclusion zone of 2.5 km radius around the summit is in place. ...

Two separate explosions occurred at Gamalama volcano on Ternate Island yesterday at 13.22 and 14.15 local time. The eruption followed an increase in seismic activity and triggered PVMBG to raise the alert level to 3 (out of 4) "Siaga". According to the newspaper Liputan6 people have not heard the explosion, but only saw an ash plume rise. ...

CVGHM lowered the Alert Level for Gamalama from 3 to 2 (on a scale of 1-4) on 24 January based on visual observations of white plumes rising as high as 100 m above the crater and a decrease in seismicity since the last eruption on 23 December 2011. ...
Sunday, Jan 01, 2012
At least 3 people were killed by mud flows. 1,000-2,600 more were evacuated from several villages on 27-28 December, when heavy rainfall turned fresh ash deposits into devastating mud flows. Most damage was in the villages of Tubo and Tofure and along the Togorara and Marikurubu rivers.

: In the afternoon of 17 Oct, a particularly violent explosion occurred at Anak Krakatau, blasting away a portion of the southern crater rim. A similar event might have been the final trigger for the catastrophic landslide that let the cone collapse and cause a devastating tsunami on 22 Dec 2018.
