Magnitude 5.5 earthquake strikes near Carson City, Nevada

Just 13 minutes ago, a 5.5-magnitude earthquake struck near the village of Mina, Nevada. The tremor was recorded early morning on Friday 13 November 2020 at 1.13 am local time, at a very shallow depth of 3.9 miles below the surface.

The event was filed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the first seismological agency to report it.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) which listed the quake at magnitude 5.0. A third agency, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), reported the same quake at magnitude 5.2.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should have been widely felt by almost everyone in the area of the epicenter. It might have caused light to moderate damage. Moderate shaking probably occurred in Mina (pop. 200) located 21 miles from the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Silver Peak (pop. 100) located 31 miles from the epicenter, Tonopah (pop. 2,500) 34 miles away, Dyer (pop. 300) 37 miles away, Benton (pop. 300) 42 miles away, Gardnerville Ranchos (pop. 11,300) 114 miles away, Dayton (pop. 9,000) 119 miles away, and Carson City (pop. 54,500) 124 miles away.
