3.3 quake 15 miles SSE of Kalifornsky 13 Nov 3.36 am (GMT -9)
According to preliminary data, the quake was located at a shallow depth of 18 miles. Shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones as they are closer to the surface. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Our monitoring service at VolcanoDiscovery identified a second report from the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) which listed the quake at magnitude 3.3 as well.
Despite its relatively small magnitude, the quake could probably be felt very close to the epicenter. Towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Clam Gulch (pop. 200) located 10 miles from the epicenter, Kasilof (pop. 500) 10 miles away, Cohoe (pop. 1,400) 12 miles away, Kalifornsky (pop. 7,900) 15 miles away, Soldotna (pop. 4,500) 19 miles away, Ridgeway (pop. 2,000) 22 miles away, Kenai (pop. 7,700) 24 miles away, and Sterling (pop. 5,600) 25 miles away.
