Just 13 minutes ago, a 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck near Ambon City, Maluku, Indonesia. The tremor was recorded around noon on Tuesday 12 January 2021 at 12:46 pm local time, at an intermediate to considerable depth of 195 km below the surface.

The event was filed by Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysical Agency (BMKG), the first seismological agency to report it.
A second report was later issued by the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), which listed it as a magnitude 4.5 earthquake as well.
According to preliminary calculations, we do not expect that the quake was felt by many people and did not cause any damage. In Ambon City (pop. 355,600, 52 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
